Dr. Johnie Mozingo was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and educator who touched the lives of all of those who knew her. She was extremely proud of her impact in the field of maternal-fetal medicine and lactation science.
She was born Johnie Marie Nance in New Market, TN in 1939 to Cedric Taylor Nance and Jennie Marie Northern. She was the youngest of four daughters, and is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Marshall Woodrow Mozingo Jr, and her sisters Katie Stallings and Betty Bryan. She is survived by her sister Frances Butler and her two children, Marshall C.(Cid) Mozingo and Jennifer Mozingo Quinley. She was a proud Nana to her two grandchildren Eric Quinley and Rachel Quinley, and was a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was also a proud honorary Nana to Iou-ren Chang and Robert Niccho.
Her professional accomplishments were numerous. She began her career as a registered nurse after graduating from Baptist Hospital School of nursing in Nashville. She then received a BSN from UT College of Nursing in Memphis and taught at the University of Tennessee, Memphis for 6 years, before joining the faculty at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing, Knoxville in 1973, where she taught for 35 years. She further continued her professional education and earned a PhD in Education from Walden University and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau. She held the title of Associate Dean and chair of the BSN program at UTK and was named Professor Emeritus when she retired in 2008.
Her influence on the field of nursing was significant. She was a staunch patient advocate and influenced multiple generations of nurses in her 43 year career as a clinical educator. Her professional work was published in multiple journals and she was an avid supporter of the March of Dimes. She was also a trusted confidante and many colleagues and students valued her advice and support.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Tuesday at Weaver Funeral Home with a service to follow at 7 pm. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 pm Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette, TN for a 1 pm interment.
