She graduated from Fulton High School in 1961. She immediately took up her true calling of being a wife and mother. She had many jobs over the years including ticket sales at the Bijou theater and employee recruiting for Snelling & Snelling. But her true passion was her family. She was the organizer of family functions and the communication hub for all family members, far and wide. And she couldn't help mothering everyone she came across. When not watching HGTV while drinking a thoroughly iced coke or talking on the phone with her sisters and friends, she enjoyed shopping for deals at many local stores.
This allowed her to maintain her habit of always being beautifully turned out, perfectly coiffed, and exquisitely groomed. She was both gorgeous and gregarious. She extended hospitality and grace to everyone she met and was inclusive before it was popular.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Mary Byrd O'Shell, siblings Leonard Junior, Dean, Bill, Wilma, and Fonnie, and grandson Gavin. She is survived by her husband Bob, sisters Shirley and Doris (Jerry), brother-in-law Jack, children Jeff (Beth), Jennifer (Rick), Johnny, and Jason (Susan), stepsons Joel (Hope) and Jason, grandchildren Ethan, Emily (Chris), Xander, Charity, Isabella, Aria, and Easton, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her best friend from childhood Carol Kirby.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM followed by a 3:00 PM service with Dr. Jerry W. Taylor officiating. A private interment will take place at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joyce's name to The Love Kitchen Inc. in Knoxville at https://thelovekitchen.org/donate/
