She was born to Perry Henry and Marvel Lucille (White) Graves on October 1, 1928, in Robinson, IL. Julia graduated from Robinson High School and received a BS from Indiana University in 1951.
Julia married Thomas Young Roberson in 1951. Julia and T.Y. lived in Lexington, KY, Dunwoody, GA and Ridgewood, NJ before retiring to Robinson, IL.
Julia is survived by her four children, Sally Roberson Alcorn (Bayard), of Raleigh, NC, Nancy Graves Roberson, of Knoxville, TN, Thomas Young Roberson Jr. (Mari-Ann), of New Orleans, LA and Jeffrey Scott Roberson (Monica), of Cincinnati, OH; thirteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Julia was predeceased by her husband T.Y. in 2011; her parents and her four brothers, Perry Henry Graves Jr., Dean White Graves, Parker Graves and Howard Graves.
Julia enjoyed her childhood years in Robinson and then living in Ridgewood, NJ where her children grew up and she had many friends. She taught physical education for twenty years in the Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ Public Schools where she was affectionately known as the “play lady.” Her retirement years were spent with T.Y. in Robinson where they both enjoyed friends, travel, playing golf, summer days at the pool and hosting their children and grandchildren in the summers. These summers hold a special meaning in the lives of her grandchildren and helped to bond her far-flung family. Julia was also a loyal member of the Robinson First United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Timber Creek Village in Robinson and the staff at Villa 5 of Williamsburg Villas in Knoxville, TN, for their care and support of Julia in her final years.
The family will gather for a celebration of Julia’s life in the near future.
