I loved podcasting with Louis. He always had a thoughtful, nuanced response to whatever question I could conceive and throw at him. I will miss these conversations dearly because they were fun, fascinating, and undoubtedly made me a better person.

Oh, I had forgotten about that face, haha.  I shared a great Halloween with Lou last year, filled with A21 horror movies, jack-o'-lanterns, hordes of trick or treaters, and tons of homemade goodies in Powell, TN.

Dear Eleanor, Chris and Amanda, 
I feel honored to have been invited to Lou’s ceremony. He was a beautiful human. The stories that everyone shared were inspirational and heartfelt. I truly enjoyed listening to them. Such admiration and love for a brilliant,  passionate, kind, dedicated son, brother and friend. Louis was a legend, one that will live on in the many people that he touched. He changed the world for the better. He packed  ten (10) lifetimes into his short time here on earth. What an amazing human. 
Although I did not get to know Lou personally (regrettably,  I never made it to the yearly Christmas extravaganza), I did work with Eleanor for many years at Santana. With that said, I know very well where he got many of his traits. It’s a gene 🧬  and gift. Two peas in a pod. They both laugh loud, work tirelessly, are insanely smart, passionate, dedicated and fun spirited. They are both outspoken, outgoing, committed and passionate (working hard for those less fortunate). When someone says they can’t, they will. They never say no. They are one and the same. Eleanor is one of the smartest people I have had the privilege of knowing (forgive me Chris and Amanda, I am sure you also fall in the category of “insanely smart, talented, funny, passionate, dedicated and “true blue”… “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”).

The world is a better place because of Louis. Peace be with you all and keep living the “good” life, as Louis would want you to do.

Sharing a memory of the Class of 06 Parker School Band, we were small and mighty.  All dressed up for our graduation boat cruise.  I used to get the music we were practicing stuck in my head and hum/sing it sometimes and I loved that Louis did too  - with unabashed joy and spirit.  

Dear Eleanor and Chris and Amanda,  I am so so sorry.  I can't even begin to imagine the devastation of losing such an essential family member.  I am glad he found and loved Beth, that is a comfort, knowing he was happy.  But there are just no words.  Be kind to yourselves and each other, and much love to you all. 

Louis was a dedicated researcher. I remember countless nights we worked together on statistical mechanics. Even, sometimes I would find him sleeping on the couch in the lab. I remember every morning seeing him getting milk for breakfast and waking in Rathbone Hall. Always a memory and forever a true spirit.

My fondest memories of Louis are the most banal- spending time chatting in our dorm room at Wake, car rides to the grocery store, sharing awful puns or science jokes on Instagram. In many ways, that makes his absence hurt more- like something's missing from every day. But I feel privileged to have had Lou so tightly woven into my life like that. And if the cost of knowing him so well is missing him every day, it's one I'm willing to pay. 

Louis loved to make his friends laugh. My favorite memory of him is his 38-second improvised cameo in my amateur feature-length film. In this lower-res screenshot, you can clearly see Louis's trademark gesticulation as his character (Charles Merriweather Jefferson) so eloquently and passionately describes his steadfast unsureness in anything. Because this was the best take, we kept it. Consequently, in the film you can also hear the director/cinematographer chuckle despite all attempts to resist.

Louis was a kind and gentle soul. So sorry for your loss. Know he left a fond and lasting effect on everyone at Parker.

Lou was a complex, funny, brilliant man and utterly unique. We so enjoyed spending time with Lou although we must say sometimes we had no idea what he was talking about. (Fluid dynamics?) Louis was wicked smart and would have gone on to accomplish so much, as evidenced by all he had already done. The world has lost a dedicated and remarkable young man, and the Blais Wonnell family has suffered the greatest loss possible. We send our sincere condolences to all who knew Lou.

Dear Eleanor, Chris and Amanda,
There is no way to describe my heartbreak for you.  I wish there were some way I could help to ease your pain.  Please take comfort in the fact that you couldn’t have loved him more, and Lou knew that…  and that his love for each of you was just as deep.  You left nothing on the table - the way we should all live our lives.

I worked with Louis on  his post doc here at the Air Force Institute of technology WPAFB.  He was an extremely hard worker and a very good scientist.
