

Thatcher, Lucy Matthews, born January 4, 1930 in Russellville, Arkansas, died peacefully at home with family on Friday, May 25, 2012. Lucy attended high school in Wynne, Arkansas and graduated from Arkansas State Teacher’s College in Conway, Arkansas. Throughout high school and college she was considered the top cornet player in the state, garnering many awards for her musical ability and leadership. After college she was a high school band director at Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Arkansas for one year during which time she married Jim
Thatcher in 1951. She dedicated her life to supporting and loving her husband of 60 years and their three sons, Byron, Blake, and Brent. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dolan and Ethel Matthews. Lucy is survived by her loving husband Jim; sons, Byron and wife Ann, Blake and wife Lois, Brent and wife Beverly; and eight grandchildren: Kenny and wife Hannah Thatcher, Alex Thatcher, Jimmy Thatcher, Will Thatcher, Carrie and husband Audric Crouch, Rebecca Thatcher , Timothy Thatcher, Sarah Thatcher; and great-granddaughter Kaileen. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at NHC Fort Sanders, Amedisys Hospice Care, caregiver Theresa Curry, and neighbors and friends who offered their support and prayers. Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM.
