Margaret dedicated much of her life to helping young people learn and grow. She served as a TAG (Talented and Gifted) teacher and spent many years tutoring students, patiently encouraging curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. Education was not just her profession, but her calling.
An avid reader and lifelong learner, Margaret also enjoyed playing bridge and valued the friendships formed around the card table. Known for her dry sense of humor, she had a quick wit that often surfaced at just the right moment and was especially appreciated by those who knew her well. She believed deeply in serving others and gave generously of her time through her church, volunteering with Vacation Bible School, FISH Pantry, and the church library.
Above all, Margaret was a loving mother, family member, and friend. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in their achievements, stories, and time spent together. Her kindness, dedication, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on those who knew her. She will be remembered for her generosity, her love of learning, and her unwavering commitment to helping others.
Margaret is survived by her children, Jon West of Knoxville, TN and Catherine Townsend (Jacob) of Asheville, NC, and her grandsons Miles and Ethan Townsend.
A small family service will be held at this time, with a celebration of life to follow in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research in her memory.
