A proud veteran, Michael served five years in the US Navy, exemplifying dedication and honor. His commitment to service continued throughout his career with the US Postal Service, where he worked for 37 years before retiring in June 2024. Michael was an active member of the Greater Smoky Mountain Area Local #263 APWU (American Postal Workers Union), serving in several capacities, including eight years as President, and was currently serving as Vice President.
Michael was a member of Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church, where his faith and kindness touched many lives. He took great pride in his East Tennessee heritage and was a dedicated supporter of University of Tennessee sports, especially football. Michael found immense joy in spending time with family and friends, and his days were often brightened by reading newspapers, solving crossword puzzles, and watching classic Andy Griffith episodes. In retirement, Michael loved to travel—particularly enjoying "Field Trip Fridays" with friends as they explored new places and sites together. His favorite vacation destination was the beach. An animal lover at heart, he rescued and adopted pets, and was known throughout the neighborhood as a caring pet sitter. Of all his roles, the one he treasured most was Grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his father, William C. (Bill) Williams; mother, Jane Wylie Murphree; and grandparents, Dewey & Ethel Wylie and Claude & Vonda Williams.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Penny Williams; sons, David Robert (Molly Maenchen) Williams and Matthew Myers (Lindsay) Williams; and three cherished grandchildren: Wylie George Williams, Owen Robert Williams, and Sadie Mae Williams. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen (Steve) Carlton Williams, and best friend John Cox.
