

Muriel “Merle” Scott Miller, age 82, of Knoxville, departed this life into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 09, 2015. He was born and raised in the Halls community in Knox County. Muriel was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. Muriel retired from Dempster Brothers and worked as a Union Steward and a Shop Foreman. He later retired from Knox County School System where he was a building trades teacher. Muriel was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was kind, tender-hearted, had a strong work ethic, a good sense of humor, enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycles, antique cars, and family trips to the beach. He also enjoyed discussing history. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise Miller; parents, Earnest and Glenna (Mae) Miller, brother, Jonnie Miller; sister, Jessie Ruth Patterson and her husband Frank Patterson; sister-in-law, Myrtle Glenn and her husband, Joseph Glenn and a niece, Beverly Glenn; sister-in-law, Stella McMillan and her husband Willie McMillian. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Andy Cook, granddaughters, Meredith Harrell (Keith) and Morgan Berry (Zack); great granddaughter, Kaylee Harrell and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Friday at Berry Highland South Funeral Home, 9010 Simpson Rd. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 8 PM. Dr. Clarence Gresham will be officiating. Family and friends will meet Saturday at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Maynardville, TN for a 12 Noon Interment Service. Minister, Darryl Glenn will be officiating. Full military honors will be provided by East Tennessee Honor Guard.
