Peggy Jean Hicks

Shirley Peggy Jean Hicks went to be with the Lord around sunrise on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the age of 85. “Peggy Jean”, daughter of the late Sherman Edward and Mary Ernestine “Tean” Dixon, was born on January 30, 1940, in Washington, Missouri and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Peggy was a devoted and loving wife to the late USMC Captain Herbert Owens Hicks, Jr. They married on January 15, 1960, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Knoxville. In support of her husband’s service, Peggy’s beauty graced many parts of the country before they settled in Atlanta, Georgia in 1980. Widowed in 1987, Peggy held steadfast to Herberts memory and their enduring love.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert Owens Hicks, Jr; her brothers: Ronald, Gary, Kenneth, and Paul Dixon; and her sister-in-law: Judy L Dixon.

Peggy is survived by her children: Rodney Hicks and Annita Iobst; sister-in law: Brenda Dixon; nephews: Mark (Shannon) and Randy (Carol) Dixon; niece: Lisa LeClaire; grandchildren: Kyle Hicks (fiancée Bridget Field), Kinzie Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Olivia Iobst, Oskar Iobst, and MJ Iobst; great-grandchildren: Kolson and Brynlee Jackson; and a cherished great-Aunt Jean to Cierra (Trigg) McMahan, Austin Dixon, and Peyton (Dallas) Pressley.

Father Orr of Holy Ghost Catholic Church will officiate a memorial service on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 12:00pm, at Knoxville National Cemetery.
