
Richard Ellis Chase, 80, of Kingston, Tennessee, passed away on May 19, 2026. Born July 30, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, Richard will be remembered as a beloved presence—kind in spirit, steady in effort, and unwavering in the care he showed through a life of hard work and devotion.
Richard pursued his education at Barstow Community College. In his earlier years, he brought energy and camaraderie to those around him as a high school cheerleader, and later enjoyed playing tennis during his time in the Air Force.
Richard served in the U.S. Air Force, entering in August 1964. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1968. His service reflected a deep sense of duty and perseverance—qualities that continued to guide him throughout his life.
Richard was married to Sonja Chase for 34 years, building a life shaped by commitment, shared purpose, and enduring love.
A man of many interests, Richard found joy in cooking and created a three-volume cookbook drawn from the classes he and Sonja attended throughout the United States. He also enjoyed woodworking, crafting several pieces of furniture that remain in use in the home today—lasting reminders of his patience, skill, and practical generosity.
In the wider community, Richard established multiple businesses to benefit charitable causes, reflecting a quietly determined desire to do good and to leave things better than he found them.
Richard is survived by his sons, Michael Chase (Anna) and Bryan Chase (Melissa); his granddaughter, Irie Chase; his grandsons, Alex Chase (Jacob) and Tyler Chase (Jenna); his brother, William Chase; and his sister, Judith McDonald; He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A Gathering of Friends will be held on May 29, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a committal service from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
