

Richard Raymond Jost, M.D. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, after a long bout with cancer. He was born February 6, 1935. Dr. Jost was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elma Jost of Madison, MS. and daughter, Mary Margaret Jost. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, the former Mary Helen Haywood of Tupelo, MS., He leaves behind 4 children and their families: Elizabeth Hotchkiss Meade (Michael) her sons Adam Hotchkiss wife Allison and children Nathan and Caroline, John Hotchkiss wife Ashley and children Emma and Caden, Jason Hotchkiss and his wife Amy. Rose Marie Abrams (Allen) and sons Andrew and Christopher Suzi Smithson (Andy) and sons Drew and Joseph Richard Raymond Jost Jr. (Diana) and daughters Mary-Margaret and Elli Grace. Brothers: Eugene Jost (Mitzi), Sevierville, TN.; Raymond Edward Jost, Jr. (Cathy), Madison, MS; beloved nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law Susan Lunardini and husband Bob, Madison, MS. Dr. Jost was cherished by his family and affectionately known as “Grandoc”. Dr. Jost attended the University of Mississippi, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Millsaps College, Jackson, MS. Received his M.D. degree from the University of Tennessee Medical Science Units, Memphis, TN; completed his internship at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Kansas City, MO. He served as a Captain in the US Army. He was an Emergency Room physician for seven years, serving University of Tennessee Hospital and East Tennessee Baptist Hospital. Subsequently, joined the Rockwood Medical Group in General Practice, then built his own Family Medical Center in Spring City, TN. from which he retired in 2001. Dick Jost, as he was known by friends, was an avid sportsman. Hunting and fishing was part of every vacation in many beautiful parts of the country. He was a private pilot and loved flying.
