Mr. Robert Edward Abbott, of Monterey, Tennessee formerly of Knoxville, TN passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Born in Tampa, FL on February 2, 1926, Bob joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He later attended the University of Alabama on his GI Bill and graduated in 1953 with a BS in Civil Engineering. Bob married Betty Jane Austin and moved to Knoxville in 1953 to join the Tennessee Valley Authority where he worked until 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jane Abbott; children, Michael Abbott and wife Leslie of SC; Brian Thomas Abbott of Knoxville, TN; Mary Linette Almond and husband Reggie of Monterey, TN and Kevin Patrick Abbott and wife Keri; brother, Ed Abbott and sister, Donna Kelley; 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and, and 1 great grandchild, 2 step great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 1:00pm at Berry Highland West Cemetery, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932
