Rutha Alene Buffalo

BUFFALO, RUTHA ALENE - age 80, A life- long resident of the Karns Community in Knoxville, TN passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at her home due to natural causes after a lingering illness. Rutha was born in Knoxville, TN on August 1, 1931. She was a direct descendent of the Cades Cove Sand's family and spent her life on the Sand's family farm where her family has resided for over 100 years. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. She was a loving Mother, Mamaw, and friend whom will be dearly missed more than words can say. She retired at age 76 from Valley Apparel as a sewing machine operator. Preceded in death by husband Charles E. Buffalo, Mother, Cora Byrant Stallings, and daughters Louise Ellen and Linda Jean Buffalo. Survivors include: sons and daughter-in-laws Charles and Barbara Buffalo, Bill and Rhonda Buffalo, Daughters and son-in-laws: Becky and Sonny Lloyd, Kathy and Jay Gregory, and son: Robert Buffalo, all of Knoxville. Grandchildren and Spouses: Eddie and Denise Buffalo, April and Steve Downward, Charlie Ray Buffalo, Robert Buffalo, Kaitlin, Jaycee and Coltin Gregory¸ Great Grandchildren: Abigail, and Allie Buffalo and Chancelor Arden, Kyrah and Kalynna Downward. Many special nieces, nephews, family, and special friend: Kristy Etheridge. Pallbearers: Steve Buffalo, Steve Downward, Jay Gregory, Michael Chandler, Tedd Raby, and Ricky Owens. The family will receive friends at Weaver Funeral Home on September 20, 2011 from 5-8pm with the funeral to follow at 8:00pm, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Gregory. Family and friends will meet at Weaver Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:15 to travel in procession to Black Oak Cemetery for the interment service at 11:00.
