

Sharon Melton went to meet her Savior on June 14. She was born January 1, 1940 in Paris, Arkansas. She received her B.S. in 1960, and M.S. in 1963 Degrees from The University of Arkansas and Ph.D. degree in 1973 from The University of Tennessee with a major in Food Science. She was employed by the University of Tennessee Food Science and Technology Department for almost 30 years where she taught and did research in Food Chemistry. Dr. Melton was a major professor to 45 students who obtained their Master and/or doctoral degrees under her direction. Following her retirement in 2002 as a Professor Emeritus of U.T., she taught chemistry for 13 years as an adjunct Professor at Pellissippi State Community College.
Sharon was preceded in passing by her parents, Robert and Fleda, and brothers, Robert E., William F., and Raymond L., her beloved husband, Curtis C, Melton, of 64 years, and grandson Truman Melton. She is survived by her son, Dennis C. Melton, and his wife, Juvy, of Knoxville.
She was a member of the Church of Christ for over 65 years attending the Maryville Church of Christ from 1970 to 1987 and the Laurel Church of Christ in Knoxville from 1988 until her death.
Family and friends will gather to remember Sharon on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 12.30 pm at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Laurel Church of Christ, 3457 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, or to The Food Science Grant established by she and her husband, Dr. Curtis C. Melton, at the University of Tennessee College of Agriculture, 2621 Morgan Circle, Knoxville, TN 37996.
