Stacy spent her life in the Knoxville community she cherished—building a legacy of joy, service, leadership, and devotion to the people she loved.
A Life of Joy, Light, and Extraordinary Presence, Stacy will be remembered for her unmistakable radiance—an almost perfect smile that instantly conveyed happiness and a laugh full of life. She had emotional intelligence, quick wit, and a wonderfully dry sense of humor, often making incisive comments that brought smiles to those around her. Her husband, Todd Moody, fondly recalled their first meeting at Cedar Springs over 30 years ago, describing her as a unique life force full of joy and light.
Leadership and service were where Stacy excelled. She was focused, determined, and capable as a member, Treasurer, and President of the Knoxville Symphony League, demonstrating intelligence and authority. Honored with the Member of the Year Award, she also served the University of Tennessee Alumni Association, progressing from Knoxville Chapter member to President. A proud UT journalism graduate, Stacy was an exceptional writer and editor. Alongside her volunteer leadership, she held a demanding role in document management at SAIC, skillfully balancing her career and community service. She also volunteered with the Pellissippi State Foundation.
Stacy was devoted to her Family. She loved her parents deeply—proud of her mother, Gail Smith, for her beauty and grace, as well as her gift of hospitality and keeping such a warm and beautiful home. She was also proud of her father, Fred Smith, for his business and professional success and high character. She often referred to herself as a “daddy’s girl.” Stacy cherished her Aunt Dale, Uncle Hal, and cousin Mark, and enjoyed telling people that her mother and Aunt Dale were twins. She adored her nieces, Meredith and A.K., and treasured their shared memories.
With a Gift for Hospitality, Stacy had a generous spirit and, along with Todd, hosted Christmas parties for years. Their home was filled with a beautiful tree, a large wreath over the fireplace, and the laughter of friends. She dedicated herself to every detail, from planning to cooking some of the food. She loved her loyal friend Katherine who was always there to help her. She lived the verse from Hebrews 13:2: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”
Stacy possessed Strength, Courage, and Grace and was fiercely loyal and protective of the people she loved. Todd often remarked, “If I ever had an enemy, they better hope they never meet Stacy, because she would take care of it for me.” In her final days, Stacy displayed extraordinary bravery. Even when facing difficult physical challenges at the end, she continued to carry herself with strength and determination.
Stacy and Todd had A Love That Endures and shared a deep love for music. Songs like “I Won’t Last a Day Without You” and “I’ll Never Smile Again” became part of their story—melodies that now hold both grief and hope.
Survived by her husband, Todd Moody; parents, Fred and Gail Smith; Aunt Dale, Uncle Hal; cousin Mark and wife Angie; beloved nieces, Meredith and A.K.; as well as extended family and many dear friends who were touched by her warmth, leadership, and generosity
