Berry Funeral Home

Wilfred Owens, age 99, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026.

Wilfred was a proud World War II veteran who honorably served his country across five nations, including France, Germany, Holland, England, and Belgium. He saw combat in some of the war’s most significant and harrowing campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. His service also took him to the Baltic Sea, and he stood watch along the Rhine River during critical moments of the Allied advance. He served with the 8th Infantry Division, famously known as the “Golden Arrow.” As part of this division, Wilfred was recognized as a member of a liberating unit during the liberation of the Wöbbelin concentration camp, where more than 5,000 inmates were freed. His courage, discipline, and dedication to duty reflected the very best of the Greatest Generation. In recognition of his service, Wilfred was awarded a Bronze Medal, a testament to his bravery and commitment while serving overseas. After his military career, Wilfred spent 20 plus years in the textile industry. He was a loving and caring man who was selective of the people closest to him. His faith in the Lord was a pillar of strength throughout his life.

Wilfred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Owens, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. Their life together was marked by devotion, resilience, and enduring love. He is survived by his family members and friends who will remember him with deep respect, gratitude, and affection. Wilfred Owens leaves behind a legacy of lasting friendships and God's enduring love. In the words of Mr. Will, “God bless”.

Wilfred Owens was a resident of Knoxville, Tennessee.
