William Henry Newberry

William H. Newberry, “Tink,” age 82 of Knoxville, was born on April 13, 1935 and passed away suddenly on May 22, 2017 at home. He was a member of Bookwalter United Methodist Church and a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired Captain from Knoxville Fire Department with 34 years of service. Tink was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Nellie Newberry and brother, Paul Newberry, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Becky Rhodes Newberry; sons, William D. Newberry, Timothy P. Webber (Gary), James M. Webber (Crystal); daughters, Jeannie Leatherwood (Jim), Patti Augustadt; loving sisters, Mary Helen Meadows and Judy Ellis (Sam); ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His angel on earth was Dessie Grace Webber. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Thursday at Bookwalter United Methodist Church, 4219 Central Avenue Pike, Knoxville, TN 37912. Funeral service will be held at 7 pm with Rev. Steve Doyal and Mike Hall officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 26, at Highland Memorial Park.
