Willie Kate Carter

Kate Carter, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Katie, as known by all, was a woman of faith. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, crafting, and playing games with family and friends. Kate is preceded in death by her parents, John and Opal Lawhorn; her husband, Hubert Carter, Sr.; her son, L. Thomas Carter, Sr.; grandson, Randy Lucas; son-in-law, Floyd Lucas; one brother and 3 sisters. Survivors include her children, Mary Lucas, H. Lynn Carter, Jr., John “Sparky” Carter and wife, Alma, and Gary Carter and wife, Marsha. She loved and was loved by her 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bud Lawhon; sister, Florence Damschen of Longview WA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm, Monday, October 9, 2017 at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway with the funeral service to immediately follow at 5:30 pm with Rev. Robert D. Ledford officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10 at Highland Memorial Cemetery for the interment.
