Betty Jean McCarter, age 94, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024. Betty was born on May 20,1930 to Charles and Stella (Breeden) Campbell in Lafayette, Indiana. A staple of the Kokomo community, she owned and operated Kokomo's own Handy Hardware for 30 years. She had a proclivity for traveling anywhere, but she would always return to Florida for the winters. She took great pleasure in enjoying Sunday dinners with her family and spending time with friends. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and shopping at thrift stores, but playing Bingo was her favorite.
Betty never knew a stranger. She talked to anyone and everyone. She was always the brightest light in the room and her absence will forever be felt by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra (David) Schmitt; grandson, Chad (Deanna) McCarter; granddaughter, Christina Foster; great-granddaughter, Brielle McCarter; great-grandsons, Austin (Molly) Foster, Tyler (Hallie) Foster and Cody Foster; great-great-grandsons, Colton Haegely and Jaxon Foster; great-great-granddaughter, Arlen Foster; sister, Joyce (Eddie) Addison; daughter-in-law, Kathy McCarter.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roger McCarter; daughter, Jeann McCarter; son, Michael McCarter; and special friend, Omar England.
Betty's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wellbrooke of Kokomo and Southern Care Hospice for taking such good care of her.
A time of visitation for Betty will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary, 725S. Main Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46901, with service to begin at 1:00 PM. A burial with committal service will immediately follow the funeral service at Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo, IN.
