

Charlene Faye Hastings, 67, Kokomo, went to be with the Lord after a long courageous battle on Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born September 7, 1945, in Martinsville, to Charles Richard Barnes and Martha (Kimberlin) Barnes-Evans. On July 7, 1995, she married Lawson “Dan” Hastings, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2003.
She worked for the United States Post Office as a postal clerk for 37 years before her retirement in 2001. She was very strong willed and determined and fought a very hard fight in her final days. She enjoyed gambling, traveling, and being on the computer.
She is survived by two daughters, Shelly (Mark) Grubb, and Catina (Dave) Heath, all of Kokomo; eight grandchildren, Kelly, Steven, Nick, Tiffany, Jeremy, Coltin, Correll, and Carighan; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Frances Evans; and her childhood best friend, Sharon Droll.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father who raised her, John Evans.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Ausbrook officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
