

Charles Douglas “Doug” Hayes, 72, Kokomo, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born December 1, 1942, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to William and Isabelle (Wright) Hayes. On November 25, 1970, he married Susan Grace (Fuller) Hayes, and she preceded him in death on June 30, 1978.
He worked as a janitor at General Motors for 36 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of Local UAW #292. He was also very active in the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization where he served as trustee.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Hayes, Los Angeles, and David Hayes, Greenfield, Wisconsin; two daughters, Elisabeth Downs, Westfield, and Nancy Evans, Greentown; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Russell Hayes, Peru; one sister, Josephine Marshall, Asheville, North Carolina; and special friend, Kristy Everhart.
In addition to his wife, Susan, he was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Rex Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization.
