Eva Christine Porter

Eva Christine Porter, 89, of Attica, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at home.

Born December 25, 1921 in Stotesbury, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George O’Grady Hester and the late Lillie Gardner Hester. She graduated from Logan High School in Logan, West Virginia in 1940.

She was married to James Harrison “Harry” Porter on May 24, 1940. He passed away in 1963.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles William Porter and James Harrison Porter Jr., three brothers, Eugene Hester, Charles William Hester, and David Leroy Hester and one sister, Dorothy Lucille Beckett.

Christine spent the majority of her life in West Virginia. She was employed by Huntington State Hospital as an invoice clerk until her retirement in 1981. She then moved to Kokomo, Indiana to be near her daughter and then moved to Attica in 2008.

She is survived by three daughters, Lou Ellen Davis and husband David of Hickory, North Carolina, Susan Jennifer McElroy (late husband Robert McElroy) of Belpre, Ohio and Sandra Kay Sponaugle and husband Charles of Attica, Indiana.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Frances Irene Mynes of Huntington, West Virginia and Margaret Ellen Albright of Portsmouth, Virginia, and two brothers, Dr. Melvin Stanford Hester of Portsmouth, Virginia and George O’Grady Hester, Jr. of Suffolk, Virginia.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 24th from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Sunset Memory Garden Chapel in Kokomo, Indiana.

The funeral will be held Friday, March 25th at 11:00 am at the Sunset Memory Garden Chapel with Frank Gribble officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will also be at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
