James Nelson Burton

James Nelson Burton, 80, of Oakford, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 1:00pm, surrounded by family. He was born June 15, 1942, in Columbia, Kentucky, to the late Nolan and Bonnie Burton. He married Linda (Acord) on May 22, 1965. Together they had 3 children, Michael Burton, Shannon Burton-Garner, and Jennifer Burton. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1963. He retired from Haynes International in 1999, after 35 years of employment in the maintenance department. He enjoyed coin collecting, Nascar racing, camping, fishing, and other outdoor sports. He loved spending time with his family most of all. He was very witty and was always making people laugh. He had a way of making every person he encountered feel special. He was known for his generosity and his willingness to always help someone in need. Watching him be a grandpa and a pappy was a joy. His love for his grandkids and great grandkids was just an extension of his love for his son and daughters. James is survived by his wife: Linda; his three children: Michael W. (Stephanie) Burton, Shannon Burton-Garner, and Jennifer Burton; his grandchildren: Jamie (James) Watson, Michael (Sarah) Burton, Brooklyn (Richie) Brown, Enola Garner, Elisabeth Garner, and Aidan Lamb, along with 13 great grandchildren, and his sister May (Thomas) Etherington. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his great-grandson, Liam Brown; and his brother, Phillip Burton. A visitation for James will be held Monday, January 30, 2023, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 1:00pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home.
