Joan "Joni" Borden

Joni was born December 3, 1936, in Richmond, Indiana. She worked for Kroger in the Meat Department for 39 years. Her expertise was customer service. She considered all her customers and co-workers a part of her extended family.

Family was Joni’s passion and delight. She loved reminiscing about her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Holding her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in her arms were her fondest memories. She was thankful to the Lord, to allow her to hold the newest member of the family, Nikolai, in her arms last week. Her favorite pastime was watching sports whether it was family or one of her favorites on TV.

Joni and Bill were married and practiced their faith in St. Patrick’s Church. All three of their children attended St. Patrick and St. Joan of Arc Schools.

Everyone that came to know her discovered her fiery spirit, beautiful smile, and passionate heart. She was always a phone call away to help anyone in the family solve a problem or offer support.

Joni is survived by her husband, Bill, of 59 years; daughter, Shelly Hanson (Jim); son, Scott Borden (Carol); grandchildren, Courtney Klueh (Matt), Nick Renard (Tara), Cole Hanson, Cory Hanson, Aaron Hanson, Tiffany Hanson, Sean Hanson (Bridget); Sam Borden, Luke Borden, Will Borden, Jake Hamilton, Carter Hamilton, Steve Polk, Amanda Newport, and Lindsay Newport; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Klueh, Dimitri Klueh, Nikolai Klueh, Sadie Hanson, Jaylan Polk, Jaycee Polk, and Brandon Newport.

Her daughter, Denise, preceded her in death on May 12, 2012.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 17 from 5-8 PM, with a rosary service at 4:30 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1204 N. Armstrong Street, Kokomo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 18 at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
