

Mr. Hollowell was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea. While in the army, he was primarily stationed in the Philippines as a surveyor. John loved to ballroom dance. He also loved reading, fishing and swimming. John loved to travel and was fortunate to be able to travel throughout Europe. He also loved watching TV and tempting his palate with exotic and spicy foods.
John and his father, Charles, ran Sunset Memory Gardens in the 1960’s. He owned, designed and managed the cemetery before retiring in 1968. John also helped to coordinate housing during the 1967 tornado that hit Kokomo and also rebuilt the church that sits across the street from the cemetery.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Dian Hollowell; stepchildren, Scott Jaynes, Mark Schauenburg and Kim (Adan) Diaz; granddaughter, Isabella Hollowell-Evans; step grandchildren, Jonathan Encalada, Eric Diaz and Christopher Diaz.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Rd., Kokomo. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time. Burial with military rites will follow at Sunset Memory Garden.
