It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Leon Hughes, a beloved son, brother, uncle, partner, and friend, who left us on June 4, 2025, in his hometown of Kokomo, Indiana. Born on May 11, 1965, Kevin brought joy and laughter into the lives of those who knew him, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever resonate in our hearts.
Kevin was the son of William Leon Hughes and Sandra Kay Deweese-Hughes (Hinkle) and was preceded in death by his mother and beloved niece. He is survived by a large and loving family who cherished him dearly. Though unmarried, Kevin shared his life with a partner who stood by him until his final moments, sharing the joys and challenges of life together.
Throughout his life, Kevin was known for his vibrant spirit and the warmth he brought into every gathering. He was an avid fisherman, mastering the art from a young age. Many of our fondest memories are of him, fishing gear in hand, ready to cast his line and enjoy the serenity of nature. These peaceful moments spent fishing were not just a pastime for Kevin; they were a tapestry of love, laughter, and bonding that will be forever missed.
Kevin was also a culinary artist at heart. His love for cooking was evident in every meal he prepared, and his family and friends eagerly anticipated the delicious dishes he would create. From family dinners to festive barbecues, Kevin’s culinary prowess filled our lives with flavor and joy. As we gather around the table in his absence, we will always remember the warmth of his presence and the love he infused into every meal.
An avid gamer, Kevin found joy in video games, often losing himself in the immersive worlds they offered. Although he faced limitations in his later years, his passion for gaming never waned. He was our gaming partner, always ready to tackle a new challenge, and his absence will leave a void in our gaming nights.
Movies were another passion of Kevin's; he built an extensive collection of VHS and DVD films that could rival a small library. His love of cinema was shared with family and friends alike, as they gathered to watch the classics and new releases, often accompanied by his joyful laughter and insightful commentary.
Kevin’s heart was also big enough to accommodate countless furry friends throughout his life. His most recent companion, Ellie May Hughes, was a loyal dog who stood by his side, especially in his final days. The bond they shared is a testament to Kevin’s gentle spirit and his capacity for love.
Music was not just a hobby, but a profound passion for Kevin. He loved to sing and often gathered with family for karaoke nights. Those moments were filled with laughter and joy, and as we remember him, we can still hear the melodies that brought us together.
A funeral service to celebrate Kevin's life will be held at Crown Point Cemetery on July 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM. We invite all who knew and loved Kevin to join us as we honor his memory and the impact he had on our lives.
Kevin Leon Hughes, you will be deeply missed, but your spirit will forever remain in our hearts. We will keep your memory alive through the stories we share, the songs we sing, and the love we continue to spread. There will always be a place for you at our table, and we take comfort in knowing that you are watching over us.
Rest in peace, dear Kevin. Your legacy of love and laughter will never be forgotten.
