

On April 23, 1947, Lucile Howard-Byars was born in Mooringsport, Louisiana to O.B. Howard, Sr. and Mollie Howard. Lucile grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana where she attended Caddo Parish Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. At an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Moorinsport, Louisiana under the leadership of the late Reverend Pinkey.
Later in life she relocated to Kokomo, Indiana. Lucile was united in Holy Matrimony to Richard Byars on Aug 10, 1965. She then joined Cathedral of Praise, under the leadership of Pastor Howard Patterson. She was a devoted member and served as Mother of the Church. She was employed for over 20 years at Delco Electronics from which she retired. Lucile was a member of various organizations around Kokomo, including UAW-292, Road Knights, Buffalo Soldiers, Kings and Queens Club, and the Silhouettes. Lucile loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings. She was also creative, wise and enjoyed helping people, therefore, she became mom and grandmom to many others. She also enjoyed watching sports, basketball and football and was fire in the card game called Bid Whiz.
Lucile was called from this earthly life to eternity on March 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
Lucile is preceded in death by her husband Richard Byars, parents O.B. and Mollie Howard, Sr. and five brothers, Winston Sr., Joseph, James, O.B. Jr. and Marvin Howard.
She leaves to cherish loving memories to two devoted and children, Loretta Guynn (Mark) and Darrell Hicks, both of Kokomo, Indiana; a special niece Yolanda Henry (Patrick) of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lonnie Anderson of Houston, Texas, and Lenetha Scott of Shreveport, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Winston Howard (Robin), Charles Howard, Ashley Hicks, Shayla Levine, Victoria Hicks, all of Kokomo, Indiana; JoAnn Gonzales of San Antonio, Texas and Star Tribu of Miami, Florida; 18 great grandchildren; Godson Lamont Burkes and Godson and Goddaughter Byran and Alicia Mills; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Lucile will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 1599 East Sycamore Street, Kokomo, In 46901, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
