She attended Kokomo High School and was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army. She married John A. Stewart on July 26, 1947. They had two children: Julie Herron (Murry) of Clearwater, FL and Jeff Stewart of Kokomo. She loved to cook, sew, sing, read her Bible, and plant a garden nearly every summer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters Orpha Sparling Powell, Josie Poff, and Betty Mills Arnett Shook; and her husband John Stewart.
She is survived by her two children and six grandchildren; Gina Hallam (Steve) of Logansport, Lisa Cavalleri of Oldsmar, FL, Angela Cunningham (Vince) and Christian Herron of Elizabethtown, KY, Danielle Akers (Nick) of Ft. Wayne and Summer Stewart of Tipton; two siblings: Lt. Col. Harry J. Smith of Rockford, IL and Emma Jackson of Terre Haute; and six great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Martha will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Salvation Army, 1105 S Waugh St, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.
