

Phyllis Jean Tedder, 87, of Kokomo, passed away at Century Villa Health Care, Greentown, IN on February 9, 2026. Born on September 25, 1938, she was the only child of Emmett and Mildred (Pattengale) Wright. A compassionate and kind-hearted woman, Phyllis spent her early years in Kokomo, Indiana, where she graduated from Kokomo High School in 1956. As a teenager, she played the steel guitar and nurtured a lifelong passion for animals, especially cats and dogs, rescuing and rehoming many throughout her years.
Phyllis dedicated 42 years of her career to Stearns’ Moving & Storage. On February 28, 1957, she married George “Malcolm” Tedder, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a family filled with love and warmth. Phyllis is survived by her son, Gregory Tedder, and daughter, Kimberly Wainwright. Her cherished granddaughter, Brookelyn (Justin) Williams, along with great-granddaughters Phoenix Steele and Alana Williams, and great-grandson Lincoln Williams, brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
A lover of country music, Phyllis found joy in cooking, baking, and conversing with friends over the phone. During her time at Century Villa Health Care, she enjoyed playing bingo, listening to outside performers, and engaging in word search puzzles and coloring. Her love for animals remained a constant throughout her life.
Phyllis will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew her. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Paradigm Health for their loving care, compassion, and kindness.
In accordance with Phyllis' wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. The family will plan a private Celebration of Life. In her memory, memorials may be directed to The Kokomo Humane Society.
