

Wanita “Maxine” Etherington, 87, passed away on Monday April 3 at Century Villa. Maxine was born to Harry and Vera Purvis on September 11, 1929 in Kokomo. She married John L. Etherington on November 15, 1946, and he precedes her in death.
Maxine worked most recently as a custodian for Lafayette Park, and worked many other jobs throughout her life, as a dump truck driver with her husband, at the steel mill, at Kingston’s, and at Hynds. Maxine volunteered at the Rescue Mission often and enjoyed crocheting mittens for the people there. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend to those she loved.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Bob) Beeler and Linda Pettay, brother Harold (Elsie) Purvis, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Marsha Eisenmann, son-in-law Bob Pettay, a brother, a sister, and a great-grandson Burley Guage Adams.
Friends and family may call on Friday, April 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Ellers Main Street Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Russell. Maxine will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens.
