Wayne Thomas Addison, age 77, passed away on October 8, 2019 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 7, 1942 in Kokomo to the late Wayne K. Addison and Mamie (Martin) O’Dell.
Wayne graduated from Kokomo High School, and married the love of his life, Mazie (Bogue) in Forest, Indiana. He worked in many departments at Kokomo Water Works for 20 years. He then continued working as a pipe fitter for Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo until he retired in 2004 and spent his retirement fishing, hunting, wood working and traveling the world with his wife of 59 years. Their travels included Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, the Panama Canal and many cruises with Alaska being their favorite.
Wayne could be rough around the edges and a teddy bear all at the same time. He and Mazie built a home in which everyone who entered the door felt at home. He loved to pass on his wisdom and his experiences as well as helping with all sorts of projects and maintenance as he sat beside you on a
5 gallon bucket, delegating instructions and watching you learn. He bragged that his wife was the best cook ever, and that she meant the world to him. He loved his 7 kids and 17 grandkids so much that he and Mazie built a home that offered their family a place to gather, play, grow, learn and create memories that will be forever treasured in their hearts.
Wayne and Mazie were members of Victory Baptist Church. Wayne was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason, a member of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, and the Local UAW.
In addition to his wife, Mazie, Wayne is survived by his children Margie (Sam) Lea, Tina (Jim) Lea,
Melissa (Spike) Catt, Dawn (Jeff) Breedlove, Chris Addison and Shane (Jennifer) Addison; sister, Marilyn Boyd who he loved dearly, sister Linda Ray, brothers, Bob Leicht, Roger Addison and Eddie Addison; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Molly, Chelsea, Pete, Anna, Derek, Lavi, Sebi, Mani, Joshua, Steven, Tyler, Avery, Alyvia, Sophia and Quentin; and 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in passing by his 5th daughter, Robin Addison who he missed very much, and two nephews Kevin Bogue and Jason Kahn.
The Addison family would like the thank the hospice nurses and staff from the Great Lakes Caring Network who guided our very large and a little bit crazy family, through the difficulty of losing the man at the center of it all. We would also like to thank all the friends and family who surrounded us with love, compassion and an abundance of food. We are forever grateful.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Victory Baptist Church.
Memorial Contributions in Wayne’s name may be made to Victory Baptist Church in Kokomo.
