Patty C. Parker, of Poipu, Kaua'i, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2020 at the age of
91.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Wilson Parker of Richardson, Texas and Lancaster,
California, and by her parents Clarence Samuel Cude and Doris Dean (Worley) Cude, both of Ardmore
Oklahoma.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Parker of Maui, Hawaii, Bevin Parker-Evans (Richard Glen
Evans) of Kaua'i, Hawaii, Kaley Parker Morrissey (James Matthew Morrissey) of Australia,
grandchildren Mitchell Makanamakamae Parker Evans & Ryan Parker Morrissey, and extended-family
daughter Kathleen Klett.
Born March 1, 1929 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Patty attended Ardmore High School and was one of the
first women to obtain a full scholarship to North Texas State University at Denton, Texas. She headed
west to California in 1954, settling in Lancaster. Her husband Bob was an instructor/advisor at
Antelope Valley College for 25 years. Patty’s career began working with Peter Kiewet Construction, as
one of the only women at Edward's Air Force Base in the 1950's, during the remarkable period of
experimental aviation test flight history. She then became Executive Assistant for the Superintendent at
Eastside Union School District. In the 1970's she earned a California Real Estate License and worked
in sales until her retirement.
After Bob’s passing in 1987, she came to Hawaii to live closer to her children. She lived in the small
communities of Lawai, Omao and Poipu during her 28 years in Hawaii. Patty never failed to take care
of all members of her family and friends when they needed her. In 1992, Hurricane Iniki, one of the
most destructive hurricanes on record anywhere in the United States, destroyed Kauai and all of its
infrastructure. Patty lost her house, her car, and her furniture. Like so many others on Kauai, Parker
family members were under enormous stress for months and months. Throughout all the struggle and
chaos, she was a calming force, the calm at the eye of the storm.
Patty kept up on music, the arts, science and the environment, and was active in politics. She was an
advocate for women, for civil rights, and nature. She made a difference in the lives of many by her
constant support and caring. She had close friends half her age, spoke with longtime friends and 1st
cousins on a regular basis, and still corresponded with many high school buddies.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please contact family members through Borthwick
