Uncle Ray was born on October 2, 1931 in San Diego, CA to Walter and Blanche McCoy. In his youth, Uncle Ray’s love was baseball, in which he was a great pitcher. He played for San Diego High, and in the American Legion League on the San Diego Post Six team. He was scouted by the Giants until an auto accident injured his foot and leg, which halted his prospects. In 1953, Uncle Ray played baseball in the Canadian League for the Winnipeg Royals. When that ended, Uncle Ray moved back to San Diego and started working for the City of San Diego as a heavy truck driver; a position he held for 32 years. On June 1, 1957, he married Betty Ann Krause, and they had a loving marriage for the next 62 years.
Albert (Ray) and Betty had a wonderful marriage filled with love and respect. They enjoyed entertaining, and had many house parties with friends, family, music, dancing, food and drinks. He enjoyed his family reunions at Rohr Park, spending the holidays with family and friends, taking trips to Vegas or to the local casinos, and taking drives through downtown San Diego where he enjoyed keeping up on how the city’s landscape was growing and changing. He always greeted people with his amazing smile and infectious laugh, and he had the ability to make people feel special. He experienced many different circumstances in his life, yet he remained a positive person with a great outlook.
Albert was preceded in death by his father, Walter, his mother, Blanche, and his nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
