Dec 1, 1923 - Nov 11, 2016 Anne Ellen Hofmayer Michener passed away peacefully in her home Friday, November 11, 2016. She was born on December 1, 1923 to William and Anne Hofmayer in Glen Rock, New Jersey. She grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, graduating from Teaneck High School in 1942. During her high school years she met her future husband, Edgar C. Michener (Eddie), while at summer camp in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Upon completion of high school she worked as a customer service representative for AT&T in New York City. Anne and Eddie were married on April 10, 1948. After their marriage, Anne continued working for AT&T in Denver, Colorado while Eddie earned his degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Denver. They were still very much in love after raising their family of three children and sharing sixty wonderful years together. Anne devoted her life to her family, always putting the needs of her family before her own. She was an excellent cook and took great pride in cooking delicious meals for her family. She loved playing catch or reading stories to her children when they were young and supported them in all their activities and education as they got older. She honed her sewing skills and became an expert seamstress making any imaginable article of clothing. She fashioned clothes from the latest styles ranging from designer-style jeans, a fake fur vest, men's shirts, women's blouses, tailored suits and pants, formal attire including wedding and bridesmaid and prom dresses, as well as adorable outfits for her grandchildren. She even made a stuffed fur teddy bear with movable arms and legs! Later in life she took up the art of quilting and became a true artist in the design and construction of quilts to accent her Early American-style home. Eddie assisted her by making templates for many of the intricate designs she incorporated into her quilts. She hand-quilted the majority of her quilts with the finest of stitches creating true works of art. She has poured many hours of love into the many quilts she has made for her family and friends over the years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar C. Michener, her parents, William and Anne Hofmayer, sisters, Grace E. Hofmayer and Elizabeth A. Post. She is survived by her children, Bernadette M. Harvey, David C. Michener, Carol Anne Phillips (son-in-law, Dave Phillips); her grandchildren, Matthew J. Willbanks and Jeanette Marie Hummel; and her great grandson, Troy A. Willbanks. Her memorial service was held at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. on what would have been her 93rd birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to Sharp Hospice, 881 Fletcher Parkway, Suite 340, La Mesa, CA 91942. (619) 667-1900 or (800) 681-9188.
