Evelyn Kathleen "Katy" Wood

She is survived by her only grandson, Jonathan Wand, granddaughter Lucie Maus and three great grandchildren, Daniel Eugene, Brittany Rose, and Krystine Nicole Wand.

Katy’s only daughter, Janie, pre-deceased her several years ago.

Katy was born in the City of Fairmont, West Virginia, the daughter of George and Sylvia Wilfong. She was married to Charles Wood for a time before moving out West.

She came to California in 1951, and with a small loan from her father, she opened a Bible Book Store on Orange Avenue in La Mesa. She moved the business in 1967 to La Mesa Blvd., where it became the then well known “Foothills Bible Book Store”. Katy then expanded the business by opening stores in El Centro in 1975, Oceanside in 1978, Chula Vista in 1983 and San Diego in 1987.

Katy retired in 1989. She left a lasting, loving, Christian impression on anyone who has ever known her, including her many employees and friends in La Mesa.

A viewing will take place at El Camino Memorial La Mesa at 9am on Friday, May 16th. Services will immediately follow at 10am. 8390 Allison Avenue (619) 466-3297.
