Fernando left us unexpectedly on the morning of October 9th, 2021 at the young age of 39. He is survived by his parents Pascual ‘Calin’ Casas and Rosemary ‘Huera’ Luna, his siblings Maria Antonia ‘Toni’ Gonzalez and Pascual Luna Casas Jr., sister in law Jackie Casas, brother in law Manuel Gonzalez, his Nino Jesse Casas and Nina Licha Ramirez, nephews Elijah, Sonnie, Pascual (Papas) the 3rd, Vicente; nieces Areanna and Marianna; and many, many, more nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was so proud to call himself Nino to his god children Cassie Zepeda, Areanna Luna Casas, Sergio Vazquez Jr, and Vicente Carriedo Casas.
Fernando was born on October 6th, 1982. He was the baby of his family but ended up having the biggest personality. He could always make people laugh. Fernando will always be remembered as a jokester. He would tease everybody about everything and anything. In fact, if he didn’t tease you, it probably meant he didn’t like you. His laugh and smile will forever live in our minds and hearts.
He was an excellent baseball player with plenty of trophies to prove it! Fernando started swinging a bat at just 3 years old and started playing T-Ball for Sunshine Little League at just 4 years old (after someone altered his birth certificate!!!). His baseball career continued through high school where he made some lifelong friends that are now considered family. He graduated the class of 2000 from Hoover High School…HOO-RIDE!
Fernando also loved playing handball with his dad and did not hesitate to show him up as they got older! He was very well known and mostly well liked in the handball community! He was a hard-core San Diego Charger fan until they betrayed us and went to LA, but remained a loyal San Diego Padres and San Diego State University Aztecs fan to the end.
He was the cook in the family. Fernando could always be found at the grill during family gatherings, or in the kitchen making albondigas, or chicken soup, or salsa…and whoever has his salsa recipe needs to come forward…you know who you are!!!
Fernando, you were loved by so many, and your absence leaves an enormous hole in everyone’s lives. Your smile, your presence (and your ears) were too big to ignore and we will never, ever forget you.
