Marilyn was born on May 23, 1940 to John and Christina Johnson in Champaign, Illinois. She and her older brother, Arnold, grew up together on the family farm in Flatville. After Marilyn graduated from Rantoul Township High School in 1958, she went to work at the University of Illinois. During this time she met the man she would later marry in 1961, Calvin Fitch.
Marilyn and Calvin went on to have a son, Brian Fitch. After Calvin graduated from the University the family moved to San Diego, where Marilyn was blessed with a long and happy life. She spent many years working as a bookkeeper, a job that she greatly enjoyed. But she also stayed active with a large network of friends, including her numerous sorority sisters. Her infectious smile, cheerfulness and sense of humor touched the many people that she loved.
She enjoyed bowling in many leagues, often several times a week. She loved frequent camping trips with her family and close friends, and she and Calvin also had the great pleasure to travel a lot, even after they retired in 2010.
Marilyn was predeceased by John and Christina Johnson (parents), Arnold Johnson (brother), Susan Liberta (sister-in-law), Marc Liberta (nephew) and her husband Calvin Fitch. She is survived by Brian Fitch (son), Shirley Johnson (sister-in-law), Anthony Liberta (brother-in-law) and her nieces and nephews - Sherri Reifsteck, Stan Johnson, Brad Johnson, Steve Johnson, Kristi Daly, and Valerie Liberta.
