Nathashia Ashley Barney went to her heavenly reward on June 1st, 2021. She was born in Bogota, Colombia on June 9th 1958 and lived there until 1972 when she moved to Queens, NY with her mother, step father, and 5 siblings. In 1981, Nathashia moved to San Diego, CA and began her career in the hospitality business working at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club and the Marriott Marquis. Nathashia was preceded in death her father Jamie Pereira. She is survived by her loving husband, Philip Barney, her mother Julia Campo, her 5 children, Michael, Giselle, Priscilla, Nathalia, and Lily, her siblings Julie, Jazmin, Jaime, Jenny, and Margaret and her most loyal pet companion, Pinto.Nathashia was a mother, not just to her children but to anyone who needed a mother's love, warmth, guidance, and support. Nathashia's love language was cooking. She put every ounce of love into every single plate she prepared and THAT was her special sazn. Nathashia was a community leader. She was a connector. She was a pillar in every circle she was a part of. She was a proud Colombian woman who made it her mission in life to help educate and instill a deep appreciation in Colombian youth for their heritage and culture. Her passion for Colombia, led her to form a Colombian folkloric dance company, Algarabia Colombiana in 2011. Her company participated in various Lawn programs and Colombian events in San Diego with the support of the House of Colombia organization in Balboa Park. She was eventually elected the role of President of the organization in 2020 which was one of the proudest moments in her life. Although Nathashia was reserved and shy at times, when things needed to get done, or when someone needed to step up to the plate...she was the first to raise her hand, the first to assume the role, and she did it with grace, with strength, and with courage. Every single time.Nathashia was a woman like no other. She was joy in human form. She was colorful. She was silly. She was a fashion icon. She was a dancer. An actress. A true lover of the arts. She was the definition of a giver. And the limits to the lengths she would go to to give of herself, were boundless. Nathashia touched so many lives with her giving heart, her kind smile, and her vibrant spirit. For that and many other reasons, she will be so incredibly missed and remembered forever by those who had the immense honor of knowing and loving her.A rosary will be held in her honor on Friday June 18th 2021 at 7 pm at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary, 8390 Allison Ave, La Mesa, CA 91942The next day, June 19th 2021 a mass will be held at 11 am at St. Therese Parish, 6400 St. Therese Way, San Diego CA 92120 followed by her interment at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum.
