

Rob was born in Elmore, MN and spent his early years in Santa Monica. He enlisted in the National Guard and was stationed at Ft. Monmouth, NJ, where he met his future wife. He received a direct commission and proudly served with the Army in Korea. As a 1st Lt. in the Signal Corps, he was responsible for keeping the lines of communication open, and was in charge of laying a cable under Pusan Harbor. Rob was graduated from SDSU and taught there part time. He became a college math instructor at Grossmont College in 1963 and was well liked by his students for his patience and compassion as well as his competence. On a sabbatical leave, he visited colleges in Europe and Great Britain before his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the monthly Retiree breakfasts. His No. 1 hobby was his family and they were constantly exploring parts of the US together. He played tennis, enjoyed going to the beach, water skiing, church, walking in the park, driving through all 50 states, and flying remote controlled airplanes. His 87th birthday was musical get together with his siblings. Rob was predeceased by his daughter Wendy (David) and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Florence, sons Wayne (Frances), Bruce (Gilee), two sisters, Sanna (Jim) and Sheryl (Rich), his brother Peter (Judy) and four grandsons, David, Garrett, Stephen, and Matthew. Rob was laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery on 9/4/2014. There will be a celebration of life at 2pm on October 25th at Church of His Kingdom, 950 Garland Avenue, San Diego.
