Rosella Ann Alesi was born on October 15, 1925 and passed on June 29, 2019. She lived a full and active 93 years and was adored by family and friends. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Rose Bongiorno and John Bongiorno who were immigrants from Sicily, she was the younger sister of Paul Bongiorno. She lived at home until a fateful day when she attended a family friend’s wedding. At the reception, a handsome young man asked her to dance and a spark ignited a flame. They were soon engaged and in 1949 she married her life partner, Vincent Alesi. Together, they raised two sons, Thomas and John, who have continued to carry on the family name.
Coming from a family who were musically active, she played the piano from an early age and could be found at the piano at her sons’ school musicals, the local church or wherever she could accompany a singer. And she loved to sing, which she did at her church in San Diego and with the California Women’s Choir.
She moved to San Diego with her husband in 1979 where they remained. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Vincent who passed in 1988 and is survived by her sons, Thomas (Kathy) and John (Christy); grandchildren Jori (Patrick) Jandorf, Adam (Kelly), Brett, Daniel, Joel (Kristen) and Rachel; great-granddaughters Elizabeth Jandorf and Lauren. She will forever be loved by cousins, nieces and her many friends near and far.
