Steven “Steve” Douglas Caro, age 64, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026 after fighting to recover from a severe stroke in June 2025. He was born May 19, 1961 at the “Stork Club” Sharp Hospital, to John and Rita (Ward) Caro. Steve was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, Grossmont Community College and Southwestern Extended Format Police Academy. Fresh out of high school, he worked part time as a machine operator while attending college. He transitioned to being the lead warehouse man at a family-owned business that manufactured balsa wood model airplanes. He made a brief foray in law enforcement but decided it wasn’t the right career. Returning to the world of flying balsa planes, he had the distinction of being the last employee ou the door and turning off he lights when the business closed. For the next fifteen years, UCSD’s Parking and Transportation Services was Steve’s niche. As with every job he ever held, he was diligent, hardworking, and professional. He took quiet pride in the quality of service he provided to fellow staff and visitors. Steve truly lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures: spending time with friends, engaging in a wide range of hobbies including restoring, racing and writing about vintage dirt bikes. One of his greatest joys was being a proud beagle dad. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his sister Kathy, beagle “kids” Cooper, Daisy, Emerson and Finlay and his extended curated family of friends. Memorial Service will be held at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary, 8390 Allison Ave., La Mesa, CA 91942, followed by private interment at Singing Hills Memorial Park. I lieu of flowers, please donate in Steve’s name to the San Diego Human Society or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
