Teresa (Teri) was born on November 17, 1970 in Bakersfield, CA to Estevan (Steve) Silvas, of Kerrville, Texas and Luz Elena (Lucy) Silvas of Meoqui, Chihuahua. Teresa was the eldest child of Steve and Lucy. She is survived by both parents, her brother Estevan Silvas Jr., sister Sophie Coston and brother in-law Kent Coston, niece Brianna Coston, nephews Ethan Coston and Max Coston, cousin Ruby Camacho who was more of a sister and her kids Monique, Alie, and Faith Camacho, lifelong friends, God children, in addition to many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Mexico, Texas, and California.
Teresa spent the majority of her life in the service of supporting children. In her early years she was a classroom instructional aide, a youth leader at her church, a preschool teacher, then an Outreach Consultant for the Bakersfield City School District. After receiving both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Cal State Bakersfield, Teresa continued her career working as a school counselor in Bakersfield then for the Oxnard School District. She recently received her pin to mark 10 years of service with the district.
Teresa was passionate about supporting her students throughout her career. She was a beacon of support for the families and especially the many students she worked with ensuring their emotional and educational development. She touched the lives of many students and her absence will be missed in both the Oxnard and Bakersfield communities.
Teresa was devoted to her family and made everyone feel special. She always remembered birthdays and special anniversaries. She was active in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and God children. Family was important to her and she put family first. Her presence will be missed, but her memory will live on in the lives of her family.
