Hager Family,
I’m very sorry for your loss. Tess always took care of us like we were her own. Even when I was a full grown adult and had a few beers at your house, she’d start making me a bed on the couch. Giving me the “mom look” to stay the night and not drive. I didn’t have a choice when that happened.
She was such a beautiful and loving person. It’s not hard to imagine why her 4 kids turned out to be excellent people.
My family and I are praying your whole family. I hope you know how much I value you guys. We’re always here for anything. Be blessed

Words can’t begin to say how sad I am to lose Tess… or as many of us called her… Mom.

She was a brightly shining beacon for many of us in our dark times, and we knew that your guys home would always a safe harbor in those times. 

She met us with a hug and kiss every time, and was so excited to be with us and hear about how our lives were going, with a GENUINE curiosity that made you feel like the most important person in the room. 

She was the best of us, and pushed us to be the best of ourselves, but to ALWAYS cherish and to slow down during the good times, and savor the moments together.  She taught us this long before we knew what it meant or why.

She taught us this because she knew we all end our time here at some point, and what mattered to her was the memories she left, and the way she made people feel.

She taught me a lot about how to live, and what it meant to be a true friend and family member to all you care about.  She made me want to be a better person, and I’ll carry that forever. 

I’m sorry for the loss we are all grieving, but SO thankful for the memories we all got to create with one of the most amazing women to ever walk this earth.

I wish we all had more time, but I’ll cherish the memories of her inquisitive eyes and her glowing smile with me for the rest of my days.

I love you all, and I will always love her.

Surprise! Years ago, there I was on a gurney at Kaiser, lying looking up at a drab elevator ceiling when all of a sudden a beautiful angel face looked down at me with her friendly smile and sparkling eyes, saying “what are you doing here?!!” It was funny and sweet. Tess illuminated that moment, and her warm genuine countenance made it all so much better. In another chance encounter I found myself getting seated  in an art workshop at Liberty Station, and looking around found Jerry and Tess there too. It felt good, like Old Home Week, unexpectedly seeing old friends, and Tess there with her pretty smile, procuring beauty. Tess was warm, kind, gracious, creative, fun, and a very, very good human being. I am so glad she was part of this world. She still is, and always will be. To Jerry and all of Tess’s family please accept my deep condolences for your loss. Tess was dearly loved.

We will forever be greatful to have had you in our lives. Tess always welcomed us with an open home, open arms and an open heart. We are blessed to have shared so many memories and hugs. It's hard to pick just one, but celebrating the 30th wedding anniversary of Jerry and Tess will always be a favorite. The love and devotion they have for one another is like no other and set an example to us all on what true love should be. Tess we will miss you, but will carry you in our hearts forever. Some 30 years ago Tess was our son, Brian’s, Tiger Cub Den Leader. We never looked back as our friendship with the Hager family prospered. Tess and Jerry became two of our closest friends. We watched those Tiger Cubs become Boy Scouts, play sports, graduate high school and become young men. We shared our experiences, frustrations and laughed. As our friendship grew beyond our connection with the kids, we vacationed, sailed (with alcohol as seen in this photo), we had game nights, enjoyed the holidays together, attended Jerry’s plays, enjoyed Lake Arrowhead with hiking and Kayaking, and just hung out drinking our favorite adult beverages and Tess joined the boys with an occasional cigar. We were so lucky to have met the Hagers and develop such a wonderful bond. Tess brought such wonderful kindness and laughter to every outing and event. Game nights were special and boy did we laugh. Dinner and drinks were always wonderful and Tess loved when we hosted and cooked chili and cornbread. Her only request was no beans in her bowl of chili, which I was more than happy to do. She only had to ask once as I always had a special bowl for her with no beans waiting. She would always greet me with a friendly smile, a wonderful embrace and a sweet kiss. We would play new games on game night and I swear she was like the TV character Columbo, acting as if she didn’t understand the rules and then taking us to the woodshed and beating us all. We miss Tess so very much but were so very lucky to call her friend for 3 decades. She is gone too soon but will always live in our hearts, minds and souls.
