Mrs. Anne A. Cleaveland

She was born Anne Teresa Miles, in 1921, to the late James and Anna Miles, in Philadelphia, PA. Anne graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, Philadelphia, in 1941. Her first marriage was to the late Walter Orr Arnold in 1944, and they resided in Hogansville, GA for 23 years. Her second marriage was to the late John Pearce Cleaveland, Sr. They were married in 1977 and lived in LaGrange, GA until his passing in 1999.

Anne was employed by International Playtex for 17 years. Anne was the president of the Pilot Club, Garden Club, and LaGrange Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Newcomer’s Club, a life member of the Highland Country Club, and active in the Girl Scouting community for many years. She was a generous financial supporter of Little Flower Catholic High School and her church. She was an active member of Saint Peters Catholic Church.

Anne is survived by her daughter, Jennie A. Johnson; son-in-law Commander Wayne L. Johnson, JAGC, Navy (Retired); two grandchildren, Helen A. Johnson and Emily D. (Robert) Zuppert; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Lillian Zuppert; all of whom reside in Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by three step grandchildren, John P. (Nancy) Cleaveland III of LaGrange, R. Chris (Lesa) Cleaveland of LaGrange, and Jane Carolyn (Fred) Cleaveland Dwiggins of Mooresville, NC; and numerous step great grandchildren.

Anne was one of seven children; she had five brothers and one sister. Her only surviving sibling is Donald Miles and his wife Janet of Philadelphia, PA. Preceded Anne in death are John, James, Catherine, Edward, and Francis. She has numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. and the funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will be held at 12:00p.m. in Shadowlawn Cemetery followed by a Mercy Meal at the church.
