Arnold Harris Yancey, born November 1, 1944, went on to be with the Lord on December 3, 2025 with his loving and devoted wife Glenda Joyce Underwood Yancey by his side providing heroic selfless care until their final earthly moment together. Married for 60 years, their love and care for each other was a testament to their vows to the very end. Together they built a life based on a love, devotion and faith that will be a bedrock for their posterity for generations to come.
Arnold was a simple man who dedicated his life to his beloved family, friends and hard work. A lifelong resident of LaGrange, Georgia, Arnold was a graduate of Troup High School but was a “Granger” at heart because of his two daughters. While he earned a living as a superintendent before retiring from Genoa Construction, he was always quick to volunteer to fix or build any project that anyone needed. He was a master carpenter whose skills were artistic and endless.
Arnold was happiest spending time with his four grandchildren, and his new great granddaughter, who with great affection called him “Paw Paw.” Many of his grandchildren’s friends also called him “Paw Paw.” He was the perfect grandfather. With the patience of a saint, Paw Paw could often be found with his three young grandgirls putting rollers in his hair or painting his nails, but was far more in his element on the lake, in the woods or watching NASCAR and old westerns with the one grandboy.
He is also survived by his two daughters Teri (Neal) Callahan, Candy (Darren) Toney, his four grandchildren Mary Katherine Toney (Brett) Askins, Candace Callahan (Russell) Johnson, Joe Callahan, Sara Grace Callahan, one great granddaughter Molly Askins and his sister Berdine Freeman (Frank) Holloway.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Sunday, December 7, 2025, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange, GA. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 PM. Arnold will be laid to rest following the service at Hillview Cemetery in LaGrange, GA.
