Austin P. Cook Jr.

Mr. Cook was born August 2, 1915 in LaGrange , GA , son of the late Austin P. Cook, Sr. and Carrie Moore Fleeth Cook. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life and was retired from LaGrange College as the Controller/Business Manager.

Mr. Cook was a former member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange where he was an active member of the Men’s Bible Class. During his membership at First United Methodist Church of LaGrange, he also served as the Sunday School Superintendent, on the Board of Trustees, the Administration Board, and as Church Treasurer. After his retirement from LaGrange College , Mr. Cook served as a volunteer with First United Methodist Church , served as President of the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum , and was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, Troup County Unit. Mr. Cook moved his membership to Long Cane United Methodist Church from 2000 to 2005, during which time he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and served as chairperson of the Steeple Committee. In 2005, he moved his membership to First Baptist Church on the Square where he served as an active member until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor B. Cook; and two sons, Austin P. Cook, III and Daniel B. Cook, all of LaGrange.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Friday, May 14, 2010 at First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Gil Watson, Reverend Jerry Ledbetter, Dr. Paul Baxter, and Dr. Stuart Gulley officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery .

The family will receive friends at the funeral on Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Cook Scholarship Fund, 601 Broad Street, LaGrange, GA 30240, or Georgia Sheriffs Youth Homes Pineland Campus, 2048 Youngs Mill Road, LaGrange, GA 30241, or Hospice LaGrange, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, GA, in memory of Mr. Austin P. Cook, Jr.
