Mrs. Payne was born February 12, 1925 in LaGrange, GA, daughter of the late Robert Thompson and Mollie Walker Thompson. She had lived in LaGrange most of her life and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Mrs. Payne was employed with Solomon’s Department Store and was a volunteer with West Georgia Health as a senior companion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Emmett Payne.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Marsha Payne; one granddaughter, Emily Payne; two grandsons, Joshua Payne and Dylan Payne; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Gene Prickett, all of LaGrange; one sister-in-law, Shirley Thompson of Opelika, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Brandon Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview East Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
