Janet 'Granny' Blalock May

Mrs. May was born January 2, 1934 in Griffin, GA, daughter of the late Lawson Howard Blalock and Addie Lee Head Blalock. She lived in LaGrange most of her life and was a member of Baptist Tabernacle Church.

She moved to Destin, FL earlier this year and was attending Grace Lutheran Church in Destin. Mrs. May worked for several years at Playtex and at Goodyear. She retired from the Troup County Board of Education after 16 years of service. In addition to her parents, Mrs. May was preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Bill” Pharist May, Sr., brother, William “Buddy” Cooper Blalock, granddaughter, Kelly Amber May, stepmother and stepfather, Ethel and Tommy Tompkins.

Survivors include six children, Howard May of LaGrange, Phillip (and Terressa) May of Gabbettville, Sharon May of Destin, FL, Billy (and Terane) May of LaGrange, Ricky May of Phenix City, AL, and Sheila (and Joel) Richardson of LaGrange. Grandchildren include, Jon (and Daphnie) Moon, Vicki Thompson, and Brian Howell all of Dublin, GA, Emily (and Brent) Bishop, Logan (and Amy) May, Jennifer May Bryant, Anna (and Kyle) Campbell, and Adam Richardson all of LaGrange, GA, Jason May of Pine Mountain, GA, Kristin (and David) Ziegler of Columbia, SC, Shannon (and Dean) Barber of Dawson, GA, and Landon May of Phenix City, AL. Great-grandchildren include, Denver Moon, Drake Bishop, Jared, Kaylee, and Aiden Bryant, and Makinley Campbell, Kellan May, Lexi and Dylan Cindricks, all of LaGrange, GA, Jonathan, Jordan, and Jadan Moon, Haley and Ginny Hightower, all of Dublin, GA, Maddison Zeigler of Columbia, SC, and PaisleyAnn Barber of Dawson, GA. Sisters-in-law, Phyllis Blalock and Mavis Harris both of LaGrange; niece, Susan (and Kerry) Roach of Hixon, TN; daughter-in-law, Donna May of Pine Mountain, GA; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friends, Hazel Farr, Harold Robinson, Sheila Yarbrough, and Jennifer Brown.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Jimmy McMillian officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers for the service will be Adam Richardson, Brent Bishop, Kyle Campbell, John Pittman, Jason May, and Jamie Knight.

The family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Joel Richardson, New Franklin Road, Hogansville, GA, and will receive family and friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
