Jonnie Ramsey Jackson, 99 years of age, formerly of LaGrange, Ga passed away peacefully at Catholic Hospice of Holy Cross in Ft Lauderdale, FL on April 24, 2025. Jonnie is predeceased by her husband, Judge Joseph C “Condie” or “JC” Jackson, and son-in-law Ervin Preston “Pete” Rayfield. She is survived by her children Jan Jackson Rayfield and John Ramsey Jackson, grandson Jeremy and his wife Amy Rayfield, granddaughter Erin Rayfield, and great grandchildren Bella, Ava and Willow.
Jonnie had a long and remarkable life. She graduated from Newellton High school in Newellton, Louisiana at age 16. She went to business school in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from Business School in Memphis, she began a civil job as a payroll clerk at the Millington Navy Base, where she met Condie. Although transferred to payroll clerk at the Naval Base in Long Beach, California, she and Condie remained in contact and eventually married in Atlanta, Georgia a little over a year after WWII. Later they moved to LaGrange where Condie pursued his career as a lawyer and later Judge while she was a bookkeeper at LaGrange Banking Company until becoming a loving mother in 1960.
Upon Condie’s passing in 1992, Jonnie enjoyed traveling the states and the world with tour groups and family members. At home she would almost daily be found working in her front yard picking up limbs, trimming hedges and raking the yard. She said it kept her young. She moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2019 where she continued to enjoy camaraderie, new adventures and forging new friendships.
Jonnie always supported her children’s endeavors in the liberal arts. She and Condie always attended plays and concerts at LaGrange Academy, LaGrange College, LaGrange’s Community Theater and Mercer University where her children were actively involved. She especially loved music and going to LaGrange Symphony Orchestra performances and other musical programs.
