Joseph Alvin Evans

Mr. Evans was born April 6, 1927 in LaGrange, son of the late Elisha Cleveland Evans and Sara George Evans. He was a member of Independent Church of Worship and was retired from Dezurik as the receiving clerk. Mr. Evans was an avid gardener and loved the Atlanta Braves. He had a love for music and sang with several quartets including The Originals Quartet.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Sledge Evans of LaGrange; children, Phil (Fredda) Evans of Easley, SC, Sheril (Thad) Higgins of LaGrange, Alan (Faith) Evans of West Point, GA, and Joey Evans of LaGrange; grandchildren, Dan (Marianna) Martin, Jason (Courtney) Evans, Amy Evans, Jeff Evans, Brian (Breanne) Evans, Cadie Evans, Amanda (Cody) Winfrey, and Seth Higgins; Great grandchildren, Philip, Joseph, and Kelly Evans and Allison and Maddox Evans; and a sister, Lula M. (Calvin) Hodge of Easley, SC.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Jerry Scarborough officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sheril and Thad Higgins, and will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:30 P.M to 3:00 P.M.
